What are Fillings?
Fillings are a restorative treatment to “fill” the hole that is created after we have removed a cavity from your tooth.
Tooth colored filling material is called composite. It is a resin-based material that is bonded or “glued” to the remaining tooth structure. We do not use amalgam or “silver-colored” fillings anymore at our office.
What is Esthetic “Dental Bonding”?
This is a bit of a misnomer as all composite filling materials are technically bonded or glued to the tooth. The term “dental bonding” typically refers to patients who want fillings placed on their front teeth to improve their smile.
In essence, these are the same as normal fillings, however they are technically much more challenging to do and sometimes require additional planning and preparation to achieve an optimal result. This can be a more cost effective way of improving your smile compared to veneers or crowns.
